Strollers v Wimborne Ducks

23rd May 2024

Duck, Duck, Goose

Strollers 84AO | Wimborne Ducks 107/4
Match report written by Colin Fionda

The evening began with a stutter, a reluctant Joff was called up to play as a stroller pulled out at the last minute. Also the venue changed last minute due to heavy rain the day before, but heyhoe we’ve a game on!

The toss was lost in the captain’s absence and we fielded first.

Nick and Mike opened the bowling and after a couple of overs the wickets started to tumble. DJ took a superb one handed catch at mid off , then Mike clean bowled two batters and a hat trick was on.

But the early batters dug in and then took advantage of a change of bowlers. Whilst the outfield was slow the opposition were hoiking it over the fielding and managed to creep over the hundred to 107.

The captain sent in a pair of Daves to open but tight bowling kept our batters limited to mainly singles. DT succumbed to an even more impressive catch than DJ’s and so the collapse began.

Joff, doused a ciggie to go into bat, but should’ve passed it to someone to hold because he was back after one ball ! By the time he put the on the duck hat Mike was behind him to wear the shower cap!

Frankie to the rescue with the team’s only boundary but a wild slash curbed his efforts to 17. Jordy ,Colin and Dave C couldn’t impress so it was too late for Nick to salvage anything.

Our first defeat to the Ducks for many years but always played in great spirit!
